Published Thu 22 May 2025

City of Moreton Bay is set to become the home of table tennis in Queensland as Table Tennis Queensland and City of Moreton Bay sign a landmark seven-year deal.

This agreement positions Moreton Bay as the go-to location for table tennis in Queensland and establishes a Centre of Excellence to host state, national and international tournaments, also with the opportunity to deliver high performance training camps, over the seven-years leading to the Brisbane 2032 Olympics.

TTQ CEO Damon Selwyn is thrilled about the partnership and to bring the rotation of state championship events to a world class indoor facility.

“To be able to have a newly refurbished stadium with brand new equipment capable of hosting marquee table tennis events is fantastic,” Selwyn said.

“The commitment from the Moreton Bay City Council to bring these events to the city of Moreton Bay means we can bring high level table tennis to a central location for all Queenslanders.”

Mayor Peter Flannery said the partnership to establish the Queensland Table Tennis Centre of Excellence showcased the City’s commitment to Olympic pathways.

“City of Moreton Bay has a strong reputation as a destination for sports and major events. This new centre will shape the talent of tomorrow and add to our incredible calendar of events, while also benefiting the community by growing access and participation in sport,” Mayor Flannery said.

The partnership is also estimated to generate $6 million dollars of economic impact for the region with players travelling from around the country for events.

The state-of-the-art South Pine Indoor Sports Centre will now feature 40 new table tennis tables, 550 court barriers, and umpires’ tables to equip the facility for serious competition beginning with the 2025 QLD Junior and Senior Closed Championships, on 15-21 April 2025.

The partnership between City of Moreton Bay and Table Tennis Queensland will see the Queensland Junior, Senior and Veterans Closed, Queensland Open and Queensland Schools Table Tennis Championships held at the South Pine Indoor Sports Centre from 2025 to 2031.
